Responsibilities

• Independently underwrites complex group insurance applications within guidelines for standard or substandard issuance.
• Has authority to approve cases up to 10,000 lives.
• Provides guidance and work direction to lower level group underwriters.
• Provides input to performance reviews.
• Evaluates risk for the most complex group insurance products.
• Analyses data such as financial condition of the client company, employee group characteristics, participation percentage, industry, or past claim experience to determine benefits and rates.
• Ensures proper pricing and appropriate funding methods.
• Coordinates underwriting activities on proposals, new cases, renewals, and amendments.
• Ensures the company can administer the client’s proposed benefit plan design and funding method.
• Develops and maintains relationships with field personnel and clients by answering general questions and obtaining information for decisions.
• Documents and communicates decisions to necessary areas in the division.
• Reviews cases exceeding underwriter’s review level.
