Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Senior Sterile Processing Technician to ensure decontamination, cleaning, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments. This role functions as a technical expert, mentor, and resource for staff to deliver safe, high-quality sterile processing services.

The position requires CRCST or CSPDT certification at hire (or CST/TSC equivalence), 2 years of sterile processing experience, and a commitment to HIPAA, infection control, and safety

Qualifications

• 2 years of experience with sterile processing.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a technical resource and mentor for other sterile processing technicians, providing guidance, training, and support.
• Assist with training of new employees.
• Independently disassembles instruments and cleans them using appropriate cleaning agents and equipment.
• Operates and maintains automated washing and decontamination equipment; troubleshoot complex issues.
• Inspect cleaned instruments for cleanliness, function and damage.
• Receive and sort contaminated instruments from various departments.
• Assemble complex instrument sets according to count sheets and tray lists.
• Wrap or package instruments and sets for sterilization.
• Load and operate sterilization equipment; troubleshoot as needed.
• Monitor sterilization cycles and interpret printouts to ensure proper parameters.
• Document sterilization cycles and maintain records.
• Deliver sterile items to requesting departments; prioritize urgent requests.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Follow safety and infection control policies and use PPE.
