Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to decontaminate, clean, assemble, sterilize, and distribute surgical instruments. The role ensures proper processing and availability for procedures, adhering to policies and regulatory standards.

The position requires CRCST or CSPDT at hire (or CST/TSC license), 1 year of sterile processing experience, and a high school diploma. Incumbents have a path to meet qualifications within 18 months. Training and PPE provided.

Qualifications

• High School or GED required.
• CRCST or CSPDT certification required at hire.
• Surgical Technologist CST or TSC license meets requirements.
• Minimum 1 year sterile processing experience.
• Incumbents not meeting requirements have 18 months to obtain them.

Responsibilities

• Receive and sort contaminated instruments from departments.
• Disassemble and clean instruments with proper agents and equipment.
• Inspect instruments for cleanliness, function, and damage.
• Assemble instrument sets per count sheets.
• Wrap or package instruments for sterilization.
• Monitor sterilization cycles and interpret printouts for correct parameters.
• Follow safety and infection control policies and use PPE.
• Operate and maintain decontamination equipment and troubleshoot minor issues.
• Load sterilization equipment and troubleshoot minor issues as needed.
• Document sterilization cycles and maintain records.
• Deliver sterile items to requesting departments and prioritize urgent requests.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Assist in training new employees on procedures and equipment.
• Other duties as assigned.
