Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a focused Central Sterile Processing Technician to decontaminate, clean, sterilize, and distribute surgical instruments. You will learn and apply sterile processing principles under supervision to support safe patient care.

The role emphasizes inspection, assembly of instrument sets, and accurate record-keeping, with adherence to infection control and HIPAA-related policies. On-the-job training and certification maintenance are required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Pass a nationally accredited central service exam within 18 months of hire; maintain CRCST or CSPDT certification.
• A CST or Tech in Surgery Certified (TSC) meets this license requirement.

Responsibilities

• Follow safety and infection control policies and wear PPE.
• Receive and sort contaminated instruments and equipment from various departments.
• Disassemble instruments and clean them using appropriate cleaning agents and equipment.
• Inspect cleaned instruments for cleanliness, proper function, and damage.
• Assemble instrument sets according to established count sheets and tray lists.
• Wrap or package instruments and sets for sterilization.
• Monitor sterilization cycles and interpret printouts to ensure proper sterilization parameters.
• Operate and maintain automated washing and decontamination equipment.
• Load and operate sterilization equipment.
• Document sterilization cycles and maintain accurate records.
• Deliver sterile items to requesting departments in a timely manner.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Other duties as assigned or requested.
