Job summary

The Salk Institute for Biological Studies is seeking a Cell Technologies and Engineering Core Research Assistant to support human cell modeling for disease studies across campus, including aging and Alzheimer's research centers. You will apply cell culture and molecular biology techniques under general supervision. The position is up to 3 months and at-will.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree (BA) in relevant field.
• 2 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education/experience.
• Experience in human cell culture research environment.
• Experience with standard cell and molecular biology assays.
• Experience in CRISPR design and methods.
• Experience in growing a variety of cell lines from a single cell.
• Experience genotyping and troubleshooting.
• Basic light and fluorescence microscopy.
• Computer skills: Microsoft Office, Microscopy imaging and analysis software.

Responsibilities

• Culture various human cell lines including primary dermal fibroblasts, embryonic stem cells and iPS cells.
• Perform molecular biology tasks: DNA/RNA extraction, cloning, PCR, gel, vectors.
• Conduct CRISPR genome editing targeting and assay design.
• Maintain accurate biobanking records and detailed lab notebooks.
• Perform instrument maintenance and calibration.
• Manage supply inventory.
• Assist director in cryobanking inventory and system transition.
• Provide customer service and training.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.
