Job summary

Tutor Perini Civil East, a JV, is seeking an experienced Superintendent - Steel for our Connecticut River Bridge team in Old Saybrook, CT. Lead on-site steel erection, coordinate with fabricators and erectors, and ensure safety, quality, and schedule compliance.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in civil/structural construction with steel emphasis and movable bridge project experience, plus familiarity with AISC standards. Strong leadership and communication necessary.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in civil or structural construction with a focus on steel erection.
• Proven experience as a superintendent or foreman on steel-intensive projects.
• In-depth knowledge of structural steel systems, drawings, welding, and bolting standards.
• Proven experience on movable bridge projects (bascule, swing, or lift bridges).
• Familiarity with AISC standards, steel erection sequencing, and rigging practices.
• Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, shop drawings, and specifications.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• OSHA 30 Certification preferred.
• NCCER or other steel erection certifications a plus.
• Proficiency in construction management software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Steel Work Oversight: supervise erection of structural and miscellaneous steel components.
• Project Coordination: collaborate with PMs, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers for timely delivery and installation.
• Site Management: oversee daily field operations, monitor productivity, equipment usage, and safety compliance.
• Quality Assurance: ensure erection meets codes and project specs; inspect tolerances and connections.
• Scheduling & Planning: develop and maintain steel activity schedules in line with project timelines.
• Safety Compliance: enforce site safety protocols and promote a safety culture.
• Documentation: maintain daily reports, logs, and inspection records; track progress.
