Job summary

Tutor Perini Civil East, a JV, seeks a Superintendent - Steel to lead steel erection activities for our Connecticut River Bridge projects in Old Saybrook, CT. The role focuses on supervising structural steel work, coordinating with project teams, and enforcing safety on site.

Ideal candidates have 10+ years in steel-heavy civil construction, strong leadership, and experience with movable bridges or complex steel connections, with OSHA 30 preferred.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in civil or structural construction with a focus on steel erection.
• Proven experience as a superintendent or foreman on steel-intensive projects.
• Knowledge of structural steel systems, drawings, welding, and bolting standards.
• Experience on movable bridge projects (bascule, swing, or lift bridges).
• Familiarity with AISC standards and rigging practices.
• Ability to read structural/shop drawings and specifications.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• OSHA 30 Certification preferred.
• NCCER or other steel erection certifications a plus.
• Proficiency in construction management software and MS Office.
• Experience coordinating steel with concrete and other trades.
• Experience working with union and non-union labor.

Responsibilities

• Oversee steel erection on site, coordinating beams, columns, braces, and connections.
• Collaborate with PMs, engineers, subs, and suppliers to ensure timely delivery and installation.
• Manage daily field operations, monitor labor productivity, equipment usage, and safety.
• Ensure erection meets codes and specs; inspect tolerances and alignments.
• Develop and maintain steel activity scheduling.
• Enforce safety protocols per OSHA and company standards.
• Resolve field issues like clashes or fabrication errors.
• Maintain daily reports, logs, and inspections; track progress.
• Liaise between field crews, PMs, and design teams.
