Job summary

Leonardo DRS in Fitchburg, MA seeks a Senior Steam Turbine Engineer to design, analyze, and qualify turbine components for high-performance systems. You will optimize subcomponents like buckets and diaphragms and ensure assemblies meet performance goals using turbomachinery tools and validated models.

You will lead technical work with cross-functional teams, mentor colleagues, and interact with customers, including the US Navy, while ensuring safety and manufacturability in all designs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of 5 years experience in the development of steam turbines or turbomachinery rotating components.
• Experience with steam turbine rotating components design including rotating and stationary components.
• Fundamentals of mechanical design: materials, strength, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, rotor dynamics and fatigue analysis.

Responsibilities

• Plan and drive detailed technical work scope for large steam turbines, gas turbines, and generators to quality, schedule, and budget.
• Generate design options aligning with performance requirements to accelerate detail design.
• Lead and review analyses to ensure robust turbine designs meeting performance requirements.
• Perform thermodynamic, blade shaping, flow path, blade stress, rotordynamic and CFD analyses.
• Develop project plans and pre-contract estimates based on scope and risks.
• Mentor team members in state-of-the-art design and analysis processes.
