Job summary

Washington State Department of Social and Health Services on McNeil Island is seeking a senior Steam Plant Specialist to lead and oversee boiler operations and the maintenance of high‑pressure heating plants alongside the Special Commitment Center team.

You will manage day‑to‑day workload, supervise preventative maintenance, monitor operations, and plan improvements while ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, and efficient production of steam, electricity, clean air, and chilled water.

Qualifications

Applicable steam engineer's license and four years supervisory experience in power plant operations.
Ability to lead and train employees in performing skilled Steam plant work.
Experience with budget tracking, safety standards, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

Lead and oversee the day-to-day workload for the Steam plant operations.
Supervise preventative maintenance programs and monitor daily activity logs.
Evaluate operating issues and help bring them to resolution.
Maintain budget and cost controls for steam, electricity, and water systems.
Plan expansions and improvements of Steam plant facilities and equipment.
Ensure equipment is repaired and maintained to meet standards set by regulators.
