Job summary

EquiTrust Life Insurance Company seeks an Accounting Manager to lead a team of financial reporting professionals. You will oversee general accounting, subledger activity, reinsurance accounting, and intercompany transactions, driving accuracy and internal controls.

The role requires strong accounting knowledge, judgment, and a track record in developing individuals and improving processes in a mostly off-site setting. Location options include Chicago, IL or West Des Moines, IA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred.
• Seven years of progressively responsible financial reporting or accounting experience.
• Statutory Accounting Principals (SAP) accounting experience required.
• Five+ years in life insurance/annuity industry.
• Experience with accounting systems.
• Two+ years of people-management experience preferred.
• Four+ years of reinsurance accounting experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop accounting professionals with clear expectations and feedback.
• Oversee the general ledger, chart of accounts, and reconciliations.
• Ensure policy administration subledger activity is correctly configured and transmitted.
• Review and test configurations for new products and system changes.
• Collaborate with IT and Policy Administration to improve automation and controls.
• Oversee ceded and assumed reinsurance accounting and statutory schedules.
• Research discrepancies and resolve aged items and unusual activity.
• Support audits and state examinations with documentation.
• Oversee intercompany service agreements and cost-sharing accounting.
• Manage intercompany allocations, invoicing, netting, and reconciliation.
