Job summary

SpaceX in Hawthorne is seeking a Sr. Operations Engineer (Starship Machining) to design factory layouts and lead the installation of automated CNC cells for Starship components. You will manage complex projects, drive process improvements, and ensure safety on the factory floor.

The role requires a physics or engineering degree and 5+ years of hands-on manufacturing experience, with strong collaboration across teams and a hands-on leadership approach on site in California.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in physics or an engineering discipline.
• Minimum 5+ years of hands-on manufacturing experience.

Responsibilities

• Design and own factory and production area layouts to increase machining capacity.
• Lead installation and commissioning of automated CNC machining cells and material handling systems.
• Conduct vendor walks, negotiate prices and monitor schedules.
• Execute complex projects efficiently to minimize time and cost.
• Provide hands-on leadership to complete projects rapidly on the factory floor.
• Develop system and process improvements across production teams.
• Create tools to analyze delivery, capacity, and cost to guide decisions.
• Ensure safety throughout the factory build-out and production areas.
