Job summary

SpaceX is seeking a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer for Starship Machining Operations in Hawthorne, CA.

This role focuses on designing and owning factory layouts, installing and commissioning advanced CNC machining cells, and leading cross-functional teams to accelerate production readiness for Starship components. The candidate will develop tools to analyze delivery, capacity, and cost, while maintaining strict safety standards and collaborating with multiple engineering disciplines to scale

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in physics or engineering required.
• 5+ years of hands-on manufacturing experience required.
• Experience installing and commissioning complex machinery and automated manufacturing cells.
• Process engineering including project management, capacity modeling, process mapping, and layouts.
• Experience with industrial facilities (HVAC, gases, electrical, structures).
• 4+ years using Excel, SQL, or Python/R for analysis or modeling dynamic systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and own factory and production area layouts to increase capacity and capability.
• Lead installation and commissioning of new automated CNC machining cells and feed systems.
• Conduct job walks with vendors, negotiate prices, and manage schedules.
• Execute complex projects efficiently, balancing time and cost.
• Hands-on leadership to drive rapid project completion on the floor.
• Develop systems to analyze delivery, capacity, and cost for production decisions.
• Drive safety compliance throughout the factory build-out and production centers.
