Job summary

Rate is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to join our IT team in Chicago or remotely within the United States. You will help scale our core systems, drive architectural decisions, and mentor engineers while delivering high-quality software across Java, React, Node.js, and Python stacks.

As a senior member, you will own technical direction, collaborate with product and engineering leaders, and ensure robust security, performance, and reliability for mortgage tech platforms used nationally.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent working experience.
• 13+ years of software development in Java & related technologies.
• Deep expertise in Java, React, Node.js, Python, etc.
• Experience with AWS or similar cloud provider and microservices.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture, design, and development of core systems as a Staff Engineer.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to code reviews and design discussions.
• Develop scalable backend services and APIs with Java-based architecture.
• Ensure security, performance, and accessibility best practices across apps.
