Job summary

Illumina is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our Primary Analysis team in San Diego. You will design high‑performance signal processing pipelines and contribute to reliable, accurate genomic analysis used by researchers and clinicians worldwide.

Responsibilities include defining software architecture, developing C/C++ on Linux for multi‑threaded applications, and optimizing software on Illumina instruments.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Bioinformatics, or related field
• 8+ years of professional software development experience
• Proficiency in C/C++, Java or C#, and Linux development environment
• Experience with multi-threading, memory management, debugging and performance analysis

Responsibilities

• Define software architecture solutions for high-performance signal processing pipelines
• Design, develop, debug, and integrate C/C++ software on Linux for multi-threaded apps
• Optimize and accelerate software executed on Illumina instruments
• Collaborate with bioinformatics, instrument design, test and QA teams
• Work in an agile environment to maintain high-quality software
• Keep abreast of industry trends and evaluate new software/hardware tech
