Senior Staff Software Engineer, Front End (Purchasing Experience)

We are seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to lead technical excellence across all Purchasing frontend engineering. You will collaborate with engineering leaders, develop and implement technical strategies across full-stack teams, and work closely with stakeholders to build stable, high-performance solutions that provide an excellent user experience. You will shape best practices, guide architectural decisions, and drive the delivery of critical initiatives. This role demands strong technical skills, leadership, project management, cross-functional communication, and a customer-first mindset.

This role focuses on Checkout, Affirm’s core consumer-facing functionality. You will lead the frontend teams responsible for building this experience.

What You'll Do
  • Develop and drive technical strategy for all frontend teams involved in checkout.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across Affirm to promote technical excellence aligned with business goals.
  • Create a culture of ownership with high accountability and investment in building scalable solutions.
  • Deliver reliable and high-performance user experiences.
  • Influence product decisions, scope, and technical tradeoffs to maximize customer value.
  • Design, implement, and extend core platform components to enable new features and products.
  • Make architectural decisions regarding platforms, tools, and technologies to ensure consistency and reliability.
  • Plan and build scalable core platform systems to support growth in users, features, and business requirements.
What We Look For
  • 10+ years of experience in web and backend development.
  • Proven leadership of multiple engineering teams delivering results across organizational boundaries.
  • Successful track record of leading critical projects and collaborating with partner teams.
  • Extensive experience in developing and executing technical strategies that improve reliability and responsiveness.
  • Project management or people management experience, with strong influencing and coaching skills.
  • Ownership mindset and ability to foster a similar culture.
  • Strong collaboration skills across engineering and cross-functional teams.
  • Customer-first approach, translating into effective technical decisions.
  • Comfort with ambiguity, diving into code and systems for continuous improvement.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for stakeholder engagement.
  • Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Base Pay Grade: R

Equity Grade: 15

Location: Remote - US (with occasional in-office requirements for some roles)
