Job summary

Waters is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to join our scientific and medical device software development team in Milpitas, CA. You will lead software engineers to plan, build, integrate, test, and deliver software capabilities across a portfolio of software subsystems.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science or a related field.
10+ years of professional software development experience.
5+ years of technical leadership experience.
3+ years of people leadership or engineering management experience.

Responsibilities

Lead software engineers to deliver high‑quality software for scientific and medical device platforms.
Own end‑to‑end software delivery plans, milestones, risks, dependencies, and execution roadmaps for assigned software domains.
Drive feature execution from concept through release, ensuring commitments are delivered with high quality and on schedule.
Partner with subsystem architects to align delivery with architecture and product roadmaps.
Participate in design reviews, architecture discussions, code reviews, debugging, and technical decision‑making.
Coordinate with product management, systems engineering, QA, regulatory affairs, and other software teams to ensure clear, verifiable requirements.
Mentor, coach, and develop software engineers; support hiring and onboarding.
Champion best practices: design patterns, automated testing, CI/CD, reviews, observability.
