Job summary

GEICO is seeking a Sr Staff Software Engineer to lead platform modernization and high‑performance systems for Digital Personal Auto Sales. You will drive the technical roadmap, collaborate with executives, and build scalable, reliable services across on‑prem and cloud environments.

The role requires leadership, strong DevOps expertise, and hands‑on contribution to code, pipelines, and production readiness. Sponsorship is available for qualifying applicants.

Qualifications

• Fluency in at least one modern language (Go is preferred, Java is a plus).
• Proven track record of designing, implementing, and maintaining highly scalable, available and reliable systems in production.
• Understanding of security best practices and data encryption technology.
• Understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases, including stateful services management and storage.
• Networking concepts: caches, DNS, CDN, load balancing, global load balancing and queues.
• Deep knowledge of DevOps practices across on prem and public cloud environments.
• In-depth knowledge of hybrid cloud, IaaS/PaaS, Kubernetes, cloud efficiency and observability.
• Strong incident management experience and post-incident analysis for reliability.

Responsibilities

• Develop and drive the overall technical roadmap for platform services.
• Collaborate with executives, tech teams and stakeholders to define optimal platform strategy.
• Lead design and architecture of resilient, scalable platform services across on‑prem and cloud.
• Champion best practices and safe deployment processes for continuous delivery of business value.
• Contribute code, review PRs, manage CI/CD pipelines and provide production support.
• Develop incident response plans and disaster readiness for partner integrations.
• Mentor engineers and foster growth within the engineering and product teams.
• Evaluate and implement modern technologies to enhance partner integrations.
