Job summary

Coinbase is a remote-first company building the future of finance. You will own the multi-quarter technical strategy for Payments, architecting high-availability, low-latency rails and funds-flow services, and guiding cross-team initiatives that impact reliability and cost efficiency.

You will mentor senior engineers and collaborate with FinHub, Payments Risk, Regulatory Platform, and Product to balance customer experience with risk controls and unit economics.

Qualifications

• 10+ years building and operating large-scale distributed systems.
• Backend programming in Go, Java, or Python.
• Money-movement architecture including PSPs, ISO 20022, high-volume rails.
• Experience leading cross-functional technical initiatives across teams.
• Ability to communicate complex tradeoffs to executives and stakeholders.
• Uses AI responsibly with human oversight to improve workflows.

Responsibilities

• Define multi-quarter technical strategy for Payments spanning rails, orchestration, and transfers.
• Architect core Payments platform for high availability and low latency at global scale.
• Lead end-to-end design and rollout of large cross-team initiatives with clear milestones.
• Set technical standards for financial correctness across Payments, including reconciliation and auditability.
• Partner with FinHub, Payments Risk, Regulatory Platform, and Product on architecture.
• Mentor senior engineers to improve design quality and long-term maintainability.
