Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer for the Platform Payments team.

You will define the engineering vision for fiat movement across 50+ countries, owning multi-quarter strategy, and driving platform-level improvements in reliability, latency, and cost efficiency. You will lead cross-team initiatives, set technical standards for financial correctness, and mentor senior engineers to raise design quality and maintainability.

Qualifications

• 10+ years building and operating large-scale distributed systems in production.
• Deep money-movement architecture experience including PSPs, ISO 20022, routing, double-entry ledgering.
• Proven ability to design highly available, high-performance systems and anticipate scaling bottlenecks.
• Experience leading cross-functional technical initiatives and mentoring senior engineers in system design.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive multi-quarter technical strategy for Payments across rails and transfers.
• Architect core Payments platform for high availability, low latency, and cost efficiency at global scale.
• Lead end-to-end design and rollout of large cross-team initiatives with clear milestones.
• Set and enforce technical standards for financial correctness across Payments.
• Partner with FinHub, Payments Risk, Regulatory Platform, and Product for cohesive architectures.
• Provide deep technical mentorship to senior engineers across Payments pods.
