Job summary

King Edward VII’s Hospital is seeking a Senior Staff Nurse for Inpatient Wards. This on-site role involves days, nights and weekends on a 37.5-hour week within a 56-bed private hospital delivering elective, day-case and inpatient surgery.

You will lead ward teams, manage risk, and drive service improvements in a consultant-led environment. The ideal candidate is an RGN with NMC registration, degree-level health qualification, and minimum 2 years acute care experience.

Qualifications

  • Qualified RGN with current NMC registration.
  • Educated to Degree level in health-related subject or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years clinical experience in an acute healthcare environment.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Basic IT skills.
  • Surgical knowledge and experience; previous shift leader experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide visible, inclusive and approachable clinical nurse leadership for nurses, patients and families in ward areas.
  • Manage risk and deliver key processes underpinning services to colleagues, patients and stakeholders.
  • Help achieve financial targets by driving efficiencies and actions for a hospital-wide surplus.
  • Identify and implement quality improvement initiatives within teams in collaboration with Ward Sister/Charge Nurse.
  • Support learning culture and staff development, deputise for Ward Sister when required.
  • Support nursing leadership in delivering KPIs and quality indicators to inform improvements.
  • Promote awareness and compliance with hospital policies, guidelines, and national standards (CQC).
  • Carry out planned care for groups of patients without direct supervision.
  • Maintain a safe ward environment and comply with Health and Safety guidelines.
  • Ensure availability of resources for patient care by managing ward stock.
  • Assist in teaching and development of nursing assistants, students, and junior staff.
  • Encourage and support ongoing professional development among staff.

King Edward VII’s Hospital is a 56‑bed private hospital in Marylebone with four operating theatres, delivering consultant‑led care across elective, day‑case, and inpatient surgery

An exciting opportunity is available for a Senior Staff Nurse, to join our well‑established Nursing Team at the prestigious King Edward VII Hospital, working with the vision of delivering excellence in care and providing a culture of continuous learning for a highly motivated and compassionate nursing team.

This would be the ideal role for a nurse wishing to develop and extend both their managerial and leadership experience in clinical nursing. We offer a different approach to private healthcare and offer a variety of specialist treatments and complex procedures, which are simply not available from other providers

Key Responsibilities & Duties
  • To provide visible, inclusive and approachable clinical nurse leadership for nurses, patient and families in the ward areas whilst role modelling and living our values and behaviours, to ensure a positive and consistent experience for all staff and patients.
  • Being responsible for managing risk and delivering on the key processes that underpin all services to colleagues, patients and other stakeholders.
  • Taking responsibility for achieving our financial targets, through making efficiencies and taking the appropriate actions so we collectively generate a surplus across the hospital.
  • Identifying and demonstrating quality improvement initiatives both within our teams and in collaboration with the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse that benefits our patients and colleagues
  • Developing our self, our teams and being supportive and active within inclusive, safe learning culture to underpin our success and growth now and in future years.
  • Deputising for the Ward Sister when required.
  • Supporting the nursing leadership in the delivery of the key performance and quality indicators and to use the results to inform service and quality improvements projects.
  • Promoting awareness and compliance amongst colleagues regarding Hospital policies, procedures, guidelines and standards and national standards including CQC frameworks.
  • Carrying out planned care for a group/ ward of patients without direct supervision.
  • Maintaining a safe ward environment ensuring Health and Safety guidelines are implemented and adhered to
  • Ensuring the availability of appropriate resources for patient care through controlling ward stock
  • Assisting in the teaching and development of nursing assistants, students and junior staff, helping them to achieve their learning outcomes
