Waymo is seeking a Senior Staff Machine Learning Engineer to drive the ML perception architecture for Sim GroundTruth. You will guide and mentor ML engineers to solve high-fidelity 3D perception and ML inference at petabyte scale, shaping a Foundation Model-based signal framework.

You will lead architectural decisions, collaborate across teams, and own the technical roadmap for signal quality, coverage, and reliability in a rapidly expanding autonomous driving program.

Competenze

• Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, or a related field (PhD preferred).
• Proven track record of senior technical leadership setting technical vision, architecting complex ML systems, and mentoring senior engineers and research scientists.
• Proven track record of navigating complex organizations to gather requirements from diverse customers and aligning them into a unified technical roadmap.
• Hands-on experience with an ability to technically lead ICs daily, including deep knowledge of codebases, eval/data pipelines, and model architectures.
• Deep understanding of Foundation Models (VLMs or MMLMs) and computer vision/perception architectures, especially in post-training, fine-tuning, or inference-time scaling.
• Expert-level skills in Python, Numpy, and deep learning frameworks (PyTorch or JAX).

• Architect a scalable ML framework to absorb a growing list of signal requirements and transition to Foundation Model architectures.
• Define the multi-year roadmap for signal quality, coverage, and reliability.
• Lead optimization of ML perception model inference and compute efficiency across petabyte-scale datasets.
• Interface with Application Owners to translate simulation needs into technical requirements and grow the adoption of Oracle-validated signals.
• Mentor ML perception engineers and drive best practices, architectural rigor, and execution on mission-critical initiatives.
