Waymo LLC is seeking a Senior Staff Machine Learning Engineer to lead the ML perception architecture for Sim GroundTruth. You will mentor engineers, drive high‑fidelity 3D perception and large‑scale inference efforts, and shape the technical moat around foundation models.

You will align cross‑functional teams, oversee the signal quality roadmap, and push cutting‑edge perception research across petabyte‑scale datasets in a highly collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, or related field (PhD preferred).
• Strong technical leadership experience setting technical vision, architecting complex ML systems, and mentoring engineers.
• Cross‑stakeholder alignment to translate requirements into a unified roadmap.
• Hands‑on capability to lead ICs daily with deep knowledge of codebases, data pipelines, and model architectures.
• Deep understanding of Foundation Models (VLMs/MMLMs) and perception architectures for post‑training or inference scaling.

Responsabilités

• Architect scalable ML framework capable of absorbing new signal requirements and transition to Foundation Model architectures.
• Define multi‑year roadmap for signal quality, coverage, and reliability; set industry benchmarks for ground truth accuracy.
• Lead optimization of high‑fidelity perception model inference and compute efficiency on petabyte‑scale data.
• Interface with Application Owners to translate simulation needs into technical requirements and grow the customer base.
• Mentor ML perception engineers, promote modeling best practices, and drive execution on mission‑critical perception initiatives.
