Job summary

Avetix Engineering seeks a Senior/Staff Medical Device Test Engineer in the Greater Boston, MA laboratory to lead IEC 60601 testing projects and act as a technical authority for clients and colleagues.

You will mentor junior engineers, manage projects, and support business growth with occasional client-site travel (about 10–15%). A strong background in IEC 60601 is essential and laser safety experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience testing to IEC 60601 is essential.
• Experience with IEC 60825 laser safety is preferred.
• Semiconductor safety standards (SEMI S2) or functional safety knowledge is a plus.
• Ideally 10+ years in product safety testing, compliance or certification.
• Experience coaching or leading engineers is desired.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex medical device safety testing and evaluation projects to IEC 60601 and related standards.
• Act as a technical authority for clients and colleagues on testing programs.
• Support day-to-day operations, project management and client relationships.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers and technicians.
• Travel locally to client sites ~10–15%.

Senior / Staff Medical Device Test Engineer (IEC 60601)

We are partnering with a global leader in Testing, Inspection and Certification to hire an experienced Medical Device Test Engineer for their Greater Boston, MA laboratory. This is a senior technical role in an established medical testing team. You'll lead complex test projects, support the growth of the business, and help develop the next generation of engineers.

What you'll be doing

• Leading and delivering medical device safety testing and evaluation projects to IEC 60601 and related standards
• Acting as a technical authority for clients, colleagues and specialty testing programs
• Supporting the day-to-day running of the medical testing business, including project management and client relationships
• Mentoring and developing junior engineers and technicians
• Some local travel to client sites (around 10–15%)

What we're looking for

• Extensive hands-on experience with IEC 60601 (essential)
• IEC 60825 laser safety experience (preferred)
• Semiconductor (e.g. SEMI S2) or functional safety experience (a plus)
• Ideally 10+ years of experience in product safety testing, compliance or certification, from a test lab or medical device manufacturer
• Experience coaching or leading engineers
• A degree in Electrical, Electronic, Biomedical or a related engineering discipline
