Airbnb is seeking a Senior Staff Data Scientist to lead methodologies identifying guest preferences across the discovery funnel. You will collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Design to drive in-product optimizations and UX decisions that improve engagement.

The role requires expertise in causal inference for marketplaces, strong communication with cross-functional partners, and a passion for AI with a track record of delivering data-driven insights shaping strategy.

Qualifications

• 9+ years of industry experience with a PhD (or 12+ years with a Masters).
• Strong in communication with XFN partners in product, engineering, and design to enable data-driven product development with a focus on the user experience.
• Proficient in Python or R with SQL familiarity; able to develop proof-of-concept prototypes.
• Experience with causal inference in marketplace settings.
• Passion for AI and a learner mindset towards LLMs and dynamic systems.
• Domain experience in search, UX discovery, and personalized evidence systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead methodologies to identify and evaluate guest preferences across the discovery funnel.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering to drive in-product optimizations and UX decisions.
• Write prototypes to detect and quantify guest preferences in data frameworks and AI toolkits.
• Evaluate assumptions and impact through experiments and data feedback loops.
• Present findings to leadership to inform strategy and cross-functional deliverables.
