Job summary

The Hartford is seeking a Senior Staff Data Engineer to shape how Employee Benefits Sales data is ingested, transformed, and delivered across the organization. You’ll work on modern cloud‑based data platforms to ensure high‑quality, governed data products for analytics and decision‑making.

You will collaborate with Underwriting, Product and Enterprise Data teams, mentor engineers, and own Quote and Underwriting data pipelines.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of data engineering experience and best practices in distributed systems, data warehousing, ETL, and cloud technologies.
• Hands-on experience with Snowflake, Oracle, Informatica Cloud/PowerCenter, and GitHub.
• Familiar with ETL using PySpark/Python and Snowflake features.
• Experience with AWS services like EMR, S3, and Lambda.
• Cloud certifications (AWS/GCP) and Snowflake are a plus.
• Familiar with AI tools/tech stacks.

Responsibilities

• Build small to medium-scale data pipelines and data products end-to-end.
• Deliver end-to-end solutions across multiple platforms and technologies, leveraging ELT approaches.
• Influence solution architecture and CI/CD practices.
• Implement CI/CD and DevOps collaboration for data pipelines.
• Mentor and influence teams on data engineering best practices.
• Govern data pipelines including source control, branching, and access controls.
• Review and integrate complex data and propose data cleansing solutions.
• Document requirements and communicate technical concepts to varied audiences.
• Architect and prototype cloud/hybrid data architectures.
• Research and apply big data methodologies (AWS, Hadoop/EMR, Spark, Kafka, Snowflake).
• Implement and test data processing and data mining across hosted settings.
• Stay current with analytics technologies and toolchains.
