Job summary

The Administrative Office of the Courts in Olympia, WA seeks an experienced Senior Staff Attorney to coordinate legislative review and provide in-depth legal analysis of proposed legislation. You will support governance bodies, including the Board for Judicial Administration, and collaborate with staff across divisions to ensure accurate interpretation of bills.

Requirements include a Juris Doctorate, active Washington State Bar membership, and at least six years of legal experience.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
• Membership in good standing with the Washington State Bar Association.
• Six (6) years of experience as a practicing attorney or in similar legal work.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate internal legislative bill-review process and lead cross-divisional bill-review meetings.
• Lead the Legislative Screening Team reviewing bills for impact on the courts and judicial branch.
• Assign bill reviews to staff and track completion, quality and timeliness.
• Conduct expert legal analysis to identify statutory conflicts, fiscal impacts, and implementation issues.
• Prepare bill summaries, impact analyses and briefing materials for leadership.
• Collaborate with contract legislative liaison to prioritize review and interpretation of bills.
• Manage vendor contracts for a legislative tracking system and provide user support.
• Staff the Legislative Committee with materials, positions, and meeting support.
• Coordinate post-session implementation work including rule changes and training needs.
• Gather information from subject-matter experts to ensure accurate representations.
• Provide legal analysis, research, writing and support to judicial officers and committees.
