Job summary

ServiceNow is seeking a Senior Staff Engineer to own the foundational agentic search infrastructure, aligning with AI-powered search across enterprise data sources. You will shape indexing, retrieval, and embeddings, partnering with ML, Platform, and AI teams to deliver production-grade capabilities powering AI agents.

This role requires 8–12+ years in distributed systems, a CS degree, and hands-on work with vector search and modern retrieval technologies.

Qualifications

BS or MS in CS or related field; PhD is a plus.
8–12+ years building large-scale distributed systems, search platforms, or data infrastructure.
Experience with search technologies such as Lucene, Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, Solr, or similar.
Strong experience designing and operating distributed systems at scale (storage, indexing, serving).
Experience with vector search, embeddings, retrieval systems, or AI-powered search capabilities.
Proven track record leading complex technical initiatives across teams.
Balance technical depth with pragmatic delivery and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

Own core search infrastructure design, development, and operation.
Drive technical strategy and architectural decisions across multiple search domains.
Lead end-to-end search lifecycle from content ingestion to retrieval and ranking.
Design large-scale hybrid indexing architectures for sparse/dense retrieval and semantic search.
Advance multi-modal search across diverse content types.
Lead knowledge graph initiatives and entity representations.
Ensure reliability, performance, and cost efficiency of the platform.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship across teams.
