We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Staff Accountantin East ELmhurst, NY. The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for performing complex accounting activities, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal controls.


Responsibilities

  • Participate in month end close
  • Work closely with Project Managers to facilitate accuracy of WIP reporting, inclusive of contract value, cost and cost accruals, billing reconciliations
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations of the general ledger accounts
  • Ensure thorough documentation of worked preformed
  • Manage fixed asset accounts, along with monthly depreciation
  • Effectively monitor prepaid expenses and book monthly amortization
  • Assist in monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting.
  • Perform analysis and participate in special projects upon management request.

Cash Management

  • Initiation of all wires
  • Bank reconciliations
  • Verify and approve Positive Pay
  • Update cash projections and interact with accounts payable

Closing

  • Review of contract confirmation values, Intercompany AR/AP reconciliations, update prepaid schedules and accrual schedules (Mobilization, Bond Amortization, Bond Accrual, Insurance Claims), ensure posting of depreciation, equipment cost, and insurance.
  • Update Investment schedules
  • Update the WIP Report (excel). Work with Controller and CFO on the closing
  • Book tax adjustment entry for federal and state based on net income
  • Prepare trial balance analysis

Financial Reporting

  • Ensure financials are completed timely and various reconciliations
  • Prepare Cash and Investment summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • 5+ years of General Accounting Experience
  • Previous construction industry experience strongly preferred
  • General Ledger, Profit and Loss and Balance Statements, Work in progress schedules and revenue recognition, GAAP procedures
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Sage/Timberline a plus
