Job summary

Friend Health is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to support the Accounting & Finance team in daily financial activities. You will handle reconciliations, payroll support, and financial reporting to ensure GAAP compliance and accuracy.

Key duties include month‑end close, audits, budget assistance, AP/AR processing support, and collaboration with HR and payroll. A BS in Accounting/Finance and 2+ years as a Staff Accountant are required.

Qualifications

  • BS in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • CPA and/or MBA preferred.
  • 4–7 years of accounting experience preferred.
  • 2+ years as a Staff Accountant required.
  • Experience supporting payroll processing, payroll reconciliations or payroll accounting required.
  • Insurance billing experience is a plus.
  • Advanced Excel skills including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP and Macros are a plus.
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems is preferred.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Reconciles balances of assigned accounts monthly in accordance with GAAP.
  • Assist with audits and provide schedules/documentation.
  • Assist with budget preparation.
  • Manage AP inbox and forward invoices to AP Associate.
  • Back up AP/AR processing; support billing team with corrections and reporting.
  • Reconcile cash accounts and maintain uncleared checks records.
  • Handle Rep Payee process and recipient card monitoring.
  • Maintain unclaimed property schedule and deposits reconciliation.
  • Assist payroll processing and ensure data accuracy before submission.
  • Audit payroll timecards and related documentation for approvals.
  • Reconcile payroll-GL accounts and resolve discrepancies.
  • Post journal entries for credit card activity.
  • Manage employee reimbursements and CME expenses in AP system.
  • Support month-end and year-end closes; prepare financial statements.

Senior Staff Accountant

The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the Accounting & Finance department in managing the organization's daily financial activities. This role plays a key part in maintaining financial accuracy through reconciliations, payment processing, payroll supportand financial reporting. The Senior Staff Accountant assists with month‑end and year‑end close, audits, and cross‑department collaboration to uphold financial integrity and ensure compliance with organizational policies and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

Job Duties
  • Reconciles balances of assigned accounts each month to appropriate supporting detail, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial data in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Assists with providing schedules and documentation for audits.
  • Assists with budget preparation.
  • Manage the AP inbox by responding to inquiries and forwarding invoices to the AP Associate.
  • Serve as a backup to the AP Associate for processing accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
  • Assist the billing team with ticket corrections, report generation, and payment posting.
  • Reconcile all cash accounts and maintain records of uncleared checks.
  • Manage the Rep Payee process, including loading and monitoring recipient cards.
  • Maintain and update the unclaimed property schedule.
  • Track and reconcile all deposits made at various service sites to bank slips.
  • Assist with payroll processing activities by reviewing payroll data for completeness and accuracy prior to payroll submission.
  • Audit payroll timecards and supporting documentation for proper approvals, attestations, and compliance with organizational policies.
  • Reconcile payroll‑related general ledger accounts and assist with researching and resolving payroll discrepancies.
  • Reconcile and post journal entries related to credit card activity.
  • Manage employee reimbursements and CME expenses within the AP system.
  • Support month‑end and year‑end close processes.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and internal reports.
  • Prepare schedules and documentation to support internal and external audits.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources, Payroll, and other departments to ensure the accuracy and integrity of payroll and financial data.
  • Perform additional finance‑related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • BS in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • CPA and/or MBA preferred.
  • 4–7 years of accounting experience preferred.
  • 2+ years as a Staff Accountant required.
  • Experience supporting payroll processing, payroll reconciliations or payroll accounting required.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
  • This is a full‑time, onsite position located at 340 East 51st Street, Chicago, IL 60615. Regular onsite attendance during normal business hours is required.
  • Regularly required to sit for extended periods, use hands and fingers to operate a computer and office equipment, reach with arms and communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and move office materials weighing up to 15 pounds.
  • Standard office environment with minimal exposure to adverse conditions.

Occupational Risk for Exposure to TB

There is an occupational risk for exposure to TB, as this position involves extensive community and patient contact. Employees in this role are required to comply with annual TB testing as part of workplace health and safety protocols. The only acceptable exceptions to this requirement are documented medical contraindications or religious objections.
