Position Title: Senior Staff Accountant (Construction or Real Estate background)

Location: Ashburn - fully on-site

Assignment Type: Direct hire

Compensation: $85-95K

Job Description:

• Support the monthly financial close process across a diverse portfolio of companies and industries.
• Prepare and post journal entries, maintain general ledger accounts, and accurately document financial transactions.
• Analyze financial data, including assets, liabilities, capital, revenues, expenditures, and receivables, to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Prepare and review balance sheets, income statements, and other financial reports to assess current and projected financial performance.
• Perform account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies, errors, and inconsistencies, making timely corrections as needed.
• Provide budgeting and financial planning support, including variance analysis and detailed reporting using Excel.
• Allocate expenditures, encumbrances, receipts, and receivables in accordance with established schedules and guidelines.
• Use Excel extensively for financial analysis and reporting, including advanced formulas, PivotTables, and VLOOKUPs.
• Review financial transactions to determine appropriate accounting treatment and approve transactions within assigned authority.
• Assist with external audits by providing supporting documentation, account analysis, and explanations of financial activity.
• Maintain the confidentiality and integrity of sensitive financial information while ensuring a high level of accuracy across all accounting activities.
• Recommend appropriate accounting treatment for reserves, assets, expenditures, and other financial matters.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams to resolve issues, improve communication, and develop effective accounting strategies.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, systems, and workflows, particularly within a highly manual accounting environment.
• Leverage accounting software and technology while continuously developing technical and accounting expertise.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required, with at least 3+ years of relevant accounting experience.
• Experience in real estate or construction accounting required; job costing experience strongly preferred.
• Strong hands‑on experience with manual accounting, general ledger functions, reconciliations, journal entries, month‑end close, and financial reporting.
• Advanced Excel proficiency required, including formulas, PivotTables, VLOOKUPs, and other lookup functions; Microsoft Office proficiency expected.
• Familiarity with GAAP and accounting systems such as Yardi, MRI Commercial, or similar platforms preferred.
• Highly detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy, thoroughness, and quality control.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the initiative to identify, investigate, and correct errors independently.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Professional, dependable, and accountable with a strong sense of ownership over assigned responsibilities.
• Must be willing to work onsite five days per week
