Job summary

tastytrade, part of IG Group, is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to harden the platform behind real-time trading services. You will own fault tolerance, telemetry, and the Nomad-based service fabric while collaborating with infrastructure and application teams.

You’ll instrument Ruby, Java, and Elixir services, define SLOs, and guide a blameless incident-review culture. This is a first-in-role with significant impact in a fast-paced trading environment.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience designing fault-tolerant, self-healing distributed systems.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, Linux, cloud-native architectures, and containers.
• Experience with observability/telemetry: instrumentation, logging, alerting.
• Track record scaling systems under real production load and capacity planning.
• Proficiency with OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, and Grafana for instrumentation.
• Strong Linux internals and networking fundamentals; on-call experience.

Responsibilities

• Build self-healing, fault-tolerant infrastructure and internal tooling to reduce toil.
• Run gap analyses across observability stack and close blind spots in telemetry and alerting.
• Own scalability work for Nomad service fabric: capacity planning and load testing.
• Extend observability stack with instrumentation to see failure modes clearly.
• Set SLOs and error budgets with multi-window burn-rate alerting.
• Mentor engineers to grow a culture of site reliability champions.
