Job summary

Confluent is seeking a Staff Software Engineer I - SRE to drive proactive reliability improvements across a multi-cloud platform. You will balance hands-on engineering with program ownership, focusing on reducing incident toil and improving incident response across a globally distributed team.

The role emphasizes building automation, tooling, and scalable reliability standards while coaching teams on post-mortems and incident management practices.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in SRE, incident management, or reliability engineering.
• Cloud experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Deep experience with incident management tooling (Rootly, PagerDuty, or similar).
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and failure modes at scale; Kafka/event streaming expertise preferred.

Responsibilities

• Proactive Reliability Engineering, designing improvements to prevent incidents.
• Own incident response standards, on-call leadership, and post-mortems.
• Drive CRCA with customer-facing incident documents and clear root-cause actions.
• Partner with engineering leaders to elevate reliability practices across teams.
