Job summary

Planet Labs PBC is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to join the Direct Access Service Infrastructure team. You will build, deploy, and operate critical compute software for on-premises and cloud deployments, ensuring end-to-end imaging operations are reliable and scalable.

Work with cross-functional teams to design reproducible deployments, support air-gapped environments, and optimize resource usage. This remote role accommodates US/Canada locations, with occasional office presence if nearby.

Qualifications

• 6+ years building cloud-native services.
• Experience deploying Kubernetes in cloud and bare-metal environments.
• Proficiency with Terraform, Ansible, Helm, and/or Kustomize.
• Experience with CI/CD tooling (Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, Argo CD, CircleCI).
• Knowledge of on-prem hardware and network implications for compute.
• Observing and troubleshooting distributed systems (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry).
• Advanced Python and Bash scripting.

Responsibilities

• Build and deploy computing services and infrastructure in customer environments for end-to-end satellite operations.
• Operate in a tight-knit team to architect air-gapped deployments at scale.
• Clarify requirements from ambiguous use cases with cross-functional stakeholders.
• Oversee deployments, service orchestration, and documentation for cross-platform stakeholders.
• Scale architectures while ensuring service availability.
• Improve reliability by resolving edge cases, studying failure modes, and writing tests.
• Participate in on-call rotations for operational excellence.
