Job summary

Planet Labs PBC is seeking a Software Engineer in Platform Operations to design, build, and operate core infrastructure enabling engineering teams to deploy and scale services with minimal friction. You will focus on security, scalability, and reliability in a cloud-native platform.

This remote, full-time role is based in the United States, with a preference for SF/CA alignment. The team values an internal, batteries-included developer experience and cross-team collaboration to push Planet’s

Qualifications

• 4+ years in Platform Engineering, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE).
• Deep understanding of Kubernetes, Linux, and cloud compute.
• Experience with public clouds, especially GCP or AWS.
• Experience with CI/CD tools and GitOps (e.g., GitLab, ArgoCD).
• Ability to troubleshoot complex production environments and communicate designs clearly.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement core Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions for secure, scalable operation.
• Lead platform modernization initiatives, including migrating from legacy tooling to new solutions.
• Manage cloud infrastructure services and Kubernetes clusters to meet internal and customer-facing SLAs.
• Enhance observability and establish SLOs using Grafana and related tools.
• Improve core systems (GKE clusters, API gateway) and managed infrastructure.
• Collaborate with software teams to refine the developer experience of our platform.
