Job summary

Cognizant is seeking an experienced SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to join our enterprise infrastructure team in a remote US role. The ideal candidate will administer, optimize, and secure Microsoft SQL Server environments, support HA/DR, and drive modernization initiatives across production and development platforms.

You will collaborate with development, infrastructure, and security teams, implement automation with PowerShell and SQL Server Agent, and participate in on-call rotations

Qualifications

• 8+ years of SQL Server Database Administration experience.
• SQL Server 2012/2014/2016/2017/2019+ HA/DR technologies (Always On, Clustering, Replication, Mirroring, Log Shipping).
• Performance Tuning & Query Optimization.
• Backup & Recovery Administration.
• T-SQL Development and Troubleshooting.
• Production Support Experience.
• Windows Server Administration.

Responsibilities

• Administer, maintain, patch, upgrade, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server environments across production, development, test, and disaster recovery platforms.
• Monitor database health, performance, availability, and capacity while performing proactive tuning of queries, stored procedures, indexes, statistics, and execution plans.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues including performance bottlenecks, blocking, locking, deadlocks, and system outages.
• Design, implement, and support High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) solutions including Always On Availability Groups, Clustering, Replication, Mirroring, and Log Shipping.
• Develop, test, and maintain backup, recovery, business continuity, and disaster recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability.
• Support application development teams by creating, optimizing, and troubleshooting T-SQL code, stored procedures, functions, views, and triggers.
• Participate in database architecture reviews, migration projects, upgrades, and modernization initiatives to improve scalability and performance.
• Automate routine DBA tasks using SQL Server Agent, PowerShell, and enterprise automation tools to enhance operational efficiency.
• Implement and maintain database monitoring solutions, dashboards, operational documentation, standards, and runbooks.
• Administer and support Azure-based database platforms, including Azure SQL Database, Azure Managed Instance, SQL Server on Azure VMs, and Azure Storage services.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, application, cloud, and security teams to support incidents, audits, deployments, compliance requirements, and enterprise projects.
• Provide expert production support, participate in on-call rotations, and serve as a trusted advisor for database performance, security, availability, and operational excellence.
