Our client in Northern New Jersey seeks an experienced Senior SQL Server DBA to manage health, performance, availability, security, and capacity of enterprise SQL Server environments. The role is hybrid, onsite in Parsippany, NJ, with 34 days onsite per year.

Local candidates only; no relocation. The role focuses on proactive administration, monitoring, backups, patching, automation, and security, with strong T-SQL skills to troubleshoot performance issues and optimize database code.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of post-graduation experience in MS SQL Server administration.
• Deep knowledge of Always On AG, Windows Failover Clustering, HA/DR.
• Strong backup/restore, disaster recovery expertise.
• Advanced SQL Server performance tuning and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience with execution plans, wait stats, blocking, indexing, and statistics.
• Proficient in reviewing and optimizing stored procedures and queries.
• Familiar with monitoring tools like SQL Sentry, SolarWinds DPA, Redgate.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and manage SQL Server environments across production and nonproduction.
• Proactively monitor CPU, memory, storage, I/O, database growth, and logs.
• Plan capacity and forecast growth for databases and infrastructure.
• Build and maintain health, performance, and capacity dashboards.
• Install, configure, patch, and upgrade SQL Server environments.
• Manage Always On, Windows Clustering, HA, and DR.
• Validate backup, restore, and disaster recovery procedures regularly.
• Troubleshoot production DB issues and perform root cause analysis.
• Optimize queries, stored procedures, execution plans, and indexing.
• Develop automation for monitoring, maintenance, and reporting.
• Support SSIS, SSRS, and Power BI where DB expertise is required.
• Maintain standards, runbooks, and documentation; mentor juniors.
