Job summary

Kemper Corporation in Chicago, IL seeks an SQL Server DBA at a senior level to oversee the architecture, administration, performance, security, and operations of enterprise SQL Server environments within our P&C insurance platform.

You will lead modernization, ensure high availability and disaster recovery, mentor staff, collaborate with application, cloud, and security teams, and drive automation using PowerShell, Python, and IaC.

Qualifications

• Ten+ years of hands-on experience administering enterprise SQL Server environments.
• Extensive experience with SQL Server architecture, Always On, failover clustering, replication, best practices.
• Experience in on-premises, hybrid, and AWS cloud platforms for SQL Server.
• Security practices: encryption, auditing, access controls, and compliance.
• Automation and scripting using PowerShell, Python, Terraform, and IaC.

Responsibilities

• Serve as senior technical authority for SQL Server platforms across environments.
• Design, install, configure, upgrade, patch, and maintain SQL Server environments.
• Perform advanced performance tuning, indexing strategies, and workload analysis.
• Lead HA/DR design, backups, restore procedures, and failover testing.
• Mentor DBAs and collaborate with app, infra, cloud, and security teams.
