Job summary

CGS Federal (Contact Government Services) is seeking a Senior Database Administrator in Chicago to oversee SQL Server environments, including replication, backups, and performance tuning. The role covers migration from SQL Server 2012 to 2016 and broad system administration tasks.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of SQL Server DBA experience, strong collaboration skills, and the ability to work on multiple projects, sometimes after hours, to support critical databases.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years direct SQL Server DBA experience.
• Experience with SQL Server Replication, Backup/Restore, and performance tuning.
• Ability to document, explain, and present tasks and decisions.
• Experience with source control, bug tracking, SDLC, and relational databases.
• Willingness to work independently or in groups on multiple projects.
• Familiarity with VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V.
• Comfort handling confidential materials and large data environments.

Responsibilities

• Administer SQL Server including Replication, Backup/Restore, capacity planning, SSRS/SSAS/SSIS.
• Migrate databases from SQL Server 2012 to 2016.
• Provide systems administration support for hardware and software.
• Monitor and tune SQL performance; implement monitoring solutions.
• Develop and support Microsoft technologies (Visual Studio, VB.NET, ASP.NET, Web Services).
• Support virtualization technologies; create/configure VMs with VMware/Hyper-V.
• Back up web, app, and database servers per MPA policies; perform regular backups.
• Monitor, space-manage, and support databases; offer extended hours when required.
