Job summary

Varmoda is seeking a Senior MS SQL Database Administrator to support SQL Server and cloud database environments for a tolling engineering and operations team. This role will administer, upgrade, migrate, tune, and maintain high-volume Microsoft SQL Server databases, including E-ZPass tolling environments and databases exceeding 2 TB.

The position requires hands-on experience with SQL Server upgrades, performance tuning, deadlock resolution, and HA configurations, with cloud experience preferred.

Qualifications

Master’s degree or equivalent experience required.
6+ years of Microsoft SQL Server DB-management experience.
3+ years SQL Server performance-tuning experience.
3+ years upgrading tolling SQL Server environments (2012→2019).

Responsibilities

Administer, monitor, and tune enterprise SQL Server databases.
Upgrade tolling environments from SQL Server 2012 to 2019.
Diagnose deadlocks, blocking, and resource contention.
Tune very large databases (2 TB+) and optimize queries.
Configure and support clustering, mirroring, and HA environments.
Support cloud databases (Azure, Snowflake, Databricks).
Participate in rotating app and help-desk duties.
