Job summary

NextStep Recruiting, in partnership with a financial services organization, seeks a Senior SQL Database Engineer in Dallas, TX. The role is hybrid and centers on supporting enterprise SQL Server environments while driving the migration from on-premises infrastructure to Microsoft Azure.

The ideal candidate will combine deep database administration skills with growing cloud expertise, owning database performance, availability, and modernization initiatives and communicating across teams.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of SQL Server database administration or related database engineering experience.
• Strong T-SQL skills with performance tuning, indexing, backups, restores, and optimization.
• Experience with HA/DR and replication in highly available SQL environments.
• Hands-on Azure experience with on-premises to cloud migrations.
• Strong communication and problem-solving across data, infrastructure, and applications.

Job description

NextStep Recruiting has partnered with a financial services organization to identify a Senior SQL Database Engineer in Dallas, TX. This role is hybrid and will support enterprise SQL Server environments while playing a key role in the organization's migration from on-premises infrastructure to Microsoft Azure.

This position is ideal for an experienced SQL DBA who combines deep database administration skills with growing cloud expertise. The right candidate is technically strong, communicates well across teams, and is comfortable taking ownership of database performance, availability, and modernization initiatives.

Required:

• 7+ years of SQL Server database administration or closely related database engineering experience
• Strong T-SQL skills with hands-on experience in performance tuning, indexing, backups, restores, and database optimization
• Experience administering highly available SQL environments, including HA/DR and replication technologies
• Hands-on Microsoft Azure experience with demonstrated involvement in on-premises to cloud database migrations
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to work across data, infrastructure, and application teams

Preferred:

• Experience with Azure SQL, Azure Synapse, Data Lake, or related Microsoft cloud data services
• Microsoft Fabric experience, including Lakehouse or Data Warehouse environments
• Experience with database replication technologies and SQL log shipping
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline
