We are seeking an experienced Senior SQL Database Administrator (DBA) to manage, optimize, and support enterprise-level Microsoft SQL Server environments. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, problem-solving ability, and strong communication skills to ensure the stability, security, and performance of mission-critical databases.
Key Responsibilities
Database Administration & Operations
- Install, configure, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server instances (on-prem and/or cloud).
- Perform daily database monitoring, health checks, and capacity planning.
- Ensure high availability and disaster recovery through clustering, replication, log shipping, and Always On Availability Groups.
Performance & Optimization
- Monitor and optimize database performance (query tuning, indexing, execution plans).
- Troubleshoot slow-running queries, deadlocks, and blocking issues.
Security & Compliance
- Implement and enforce database security best practices, roles, and permissions.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations (e.g., HIPAA, SOX) where applicable.
- Support database encryption initiatives and audit logging.
Backup & Recovery
- Develop, test, and maintain database backup and recovery strategies.
- Respond to and resolve database outages or incidents.
Development & Support
- Partner with development teams to design and review database schemas, stored procedures, and ETL processes.
- Support application teams with complex SQL queries, data migrations, and reporting needs.
Projects & Leadership
- Lead or support database upgrade, migration, and modernization initiatives (e.g., SQL Server version upgrades, cloud adoption).
- Mentor junior DBAs and provide technical guidance to cross-functional teams.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience as a SQL DBA in enterprise environments.
- Strong expertise with Microsoft SQL Server 2016/2019/2022 (administration, tuning, and troubleshooting).
- Proficiency with T-SQL, query optimization, and execution plan analysis.
- Hands-on experience with high availability/disaster recovery solutions (Always On, replication, log shipping, clustering).
- Experience with backup/recovery strategies and tools (native SQL backups, third-party solutions).
- Knowledge of security best practices, encryption, and compliance frameworks.
- Familiarity with PowerShell scripting for automation.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Azure SQL Database and cloud migrations.
- Knowledge of other RDBMS platforms (Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
- Experience with data warehousing and BI/reporting tools.
- Microsoft certifications (e.g., MCSE: Data Management and Analytics) or equivalent.
