Job summary

Lockheed Martin Space is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer (Thermal Analysis) to support Orion thermal analyses, develop comprehensive models, and deliver data packages for design reviews. You will work with avionics, propulsion and subsystem teams, applying advanced heat transfer principles and CAD tools to ensure robust thermal control.

The role requires hands-on thermal modeling, strong communication, and the ability to coordinate across disciplines and with program offices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related field; equivalent work experience acceptable.
• Thorough knowledge of heat transfer and thermodynamics and their practical application.
• Experience executing design, analysis, and verification across product development lifecycle.
• Proficiency with CAD and thermal analysis tools (Creo, Thermal Desktop, ANSYS, SINDA/FLUINT).
• Hands-on experience with Thermal Desktop and SINDA/FLUINT; test planning and execution.

Responsibilities

• Perform preliminary and detailed thermal analyses on spacecraft components and subsystems.
• Develop and maintain models of entire spacecraft thermal system using standard tools.
• Prepare technical memos and data packages for peer reviews and program reviews.
• Present design and analysis results to engineering teams and customer representatives.
• Support Thermal Cycle/TVAC and On-Orbit flight data activities; coordinate with cross-functional teams.
