Job summary

Apex is seeking a Senior Spacecraft GNC Engineer to lead the design of GNC hardware and software for our satellite bus. You will drive attitude, orbit control, and stability requirements, influencing the entire vehicle architecture from a clean-sheet approach.

You will collaborate across spacecraft and payload teams, develop GNC algorithms and tests, and push the boundaries of performance while aligning with project goals. This role reports to the Director of GNC, HITL & Mission Ops.

Qualifications

• U.S. Person status is required to access export controlled data.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of professional GNC experience in satellite or aerospace industries.
• Strong knowledge of spacecraft dynamics, orbital mechanics, and control theory.
• Proficiency in C/C++, MATLAB, Python with numerical simulation/analysis.
• Familiarity with sensors (gyros, accelerometers, star trackers), actuators, and control algorithms.
• Experience with MATLAB/Simulink and STK for simulations.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement GNC algorithms for attitude and orbit control.
• Analyze spacecraft dynamics and perform simulations to evaluate performance.
• Design, develop, and test spacecraft control systems with reaction wheels, thrusters, and torquers.
• Collaborate with spacecraft/payload engineers to define system requirements.
• Conduct trade studies for optimal GNC configurations considering power, mass, and cost.
• Develop and execute GNC test plans and validation procedures.
• Analyze telemetry to diagnose GNC-related issues.
• Collaborate with software teams to integrate GNC modules.
• Stay current with GNC tech and drive continuous improvement.
• Provide technical support to cross-functional teams.
• Develop GNC subsystems tests and validation criteria.
