Job summary

Acara Solutions is seeking a Senior Embedded Flight Software Engineer, Spacecraft, for an in-office Los Angeles role. You will design and implement the software architecture controlling telemetry, bus communications, boot behaviors, and memory management.

Expect hands-on work across spacecraft flight software with a focus on reliability in space environments. You will lead development of FSW components, drivers for FPGAs and GPIOs, and memory/storage decisions while coordinating with

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS or engineering required.
• 5+ years of embedded flight software experience for spacecraft development programs.
• Must possess or be willing and able to obtain DoD Top Secret Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain spacecraft FSW architecture.
• Implement new software components and communication protocols for mission payloads.
• Ensure core system tasks such as telemetry, time-stamping, scheduling, and bus communications run reliably.
• Develop drivers and logic for interfacing with FPGAs and GPIOs.
• Design memory/storage solutions and decisions on volatile vs non-volatile memory.
• Develop and implement boot behaviours, partition swapping, and fail-safe recovery modes.
• Manage codebase with Gitlab and CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and development.
• Execute test campaigns on flatsat testbeds and flight units under flight-like conditions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate subsystems with the spacecraft main compute element.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
• Document design processes, test results, and system performance.
• Provide technical guidance on FSW architectures to fellow engineers.
