Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a role focused on fault management and system autonomy within the Blue National Security division. You will develop FMSA architecture, work with SEIT teams across programs, and contribute to safe human spaceflight through rigorous design, testing, and verification efforts.

The position emphasizes collaboration, leadership, and adherence to the highest technical standards in a fast-paced environment, with travel up to 10-20% and a requirement for TS/SCI clearance.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace engineering, Physics, or equivalent technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience with systems engineering principles and processes for aerospace system development.
  • Experience with fault-tolerance strategies and architectures for safety and mission-critical systems.
  • Experience with autonomous system design, analysis, and test.
  • Familiarity with embedded software system design or operation.
  • First principles knowledge of major spacecraft subsystems.
  • Familiarity with FMECA, FTA, and FHAs.
  • Ability to collaborate across engineering disciplines and provide feedback on FMSA, safety and reliability.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to travel 10-20%.
  • Ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and manage fault management architectures with design principles and requirements.
  • Define redundancy architecture, including cross-strapping and fault containment regions.
  • Architect, design, and analyze autonomous behaviors, modes, and states.
  • Plan and execute Fault Management and Autonomy Verification and Validation efforts.
  • Monitor and approve fault management and autonomy design, development, and test.
  • Drive process improvements with ownership and urgency.
