Senior Space Systems Engineer

Location

Position Type

Full time, 40 hours per week.

Overview

Upon award, BTAS will fill potential openings for Space Systems Command (SSC). SSC plays a critical role in advancing U.S. space capabilities, delivering cutting‑edge solutions to protect and enhance national security. SSC specializes in highly classified Space Domain Awareness systems, Defensive and Offensive Space Control capabilities, and space test range assets to support DoD operational needs. The role supports multiple SSC programs and other initiatives across the Space Force, Air Force, and allied organizations.

Responsibilities
  • Provide space acquisitions, engineering, operations, and technical advice and assistance for projects and programs across the acquisition life cycle.
  • Support advanced technology acquisition effort, concept development, and integration activities.
  • Advise on cost, schedule, and performance matters.
  • Revise or draft JCIDS and acquisition documentation for program managers.
  • Present product information to internal and external customers.
  • Draft SME-level technical and/or programmatic status reports for individual programs or portfolio.
  • Identify acquisition process improvements and recommend risk reduction actions.
  • Assist in building and maintaining a government risk program, including risk identification, process definition, and technical risk mitigation planning.
  • Monitor program schedule, acquisition implementation, and report requirement shortfalls; provide program assessment based on identified risks.
  • Advise program managers on technical engagements such as technical interchange meetings, design reviews, and conferences.
  • Provide technical and operational insight to support mission protection, operations, and data assessments.
  • Recommend solutions for technical anomalies and evaluate impact analysis, audits, studies, compliance inspections, and readiness reviews.
  • Offer engineering and technical expertise to support ongoing and new/advanced Command and Control efforts.
  • Act as liaison between Space C2, Enterprise Ground Services (EGS), and SSC classified program offices.
  • Focus on integrated C2 solutions with Space C2 and EGS for seamless classified portfolio integration.
  • Advise on test and operations including test documents, planning, events, requirements, and data for Developmental and Operational Testing.
  • Coordinate system-level test integration and activities as appropriate.
  • Provide analytical and operational engineering support to current and future units.
  • Support operational mission planning, protection, and anomaly engineering.
  • Support data and signal collection, processing, storage, archiving, analysis, and lessons learned for test and operations.
  • Assist with post‑mission analysis and report results.
Qualifications
  • SME Recognized Industry Leader with an MS degree and more than ten years of relevant experience.
  • Expert in classified space control space, ground, and C2 systems and associated technologies (electromagnetic spectrum, signal processing, communications).
  • Expertise in developing and managing technical requirements and space system acquisition efforts.
  • Highly knowledgeable in electronic attack technologies and system design implementation.
  • High‑level proficiency in modeling and simulation, with demonstrated ability to develop models and assess technical requirements.
  • In‑depth knowledge of classified space control system engineering processes, including requirements development, configuration control, and government Deficiency Review (DR) board activities.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not supervise the work of others.

Work Environment

Professional office environment; standard office equipment used.

Physical Demands

Must be able to operate a computer and other standard office equipment; maintain stationary position 80% of time.

Travel

Little if any travel required.

Compensation / Salary Range

Full‑time, salary, exempt position. Salary ranges contingent on experience, education, and responsibilities.
