Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Sr. Engineering Design Manager – 3 for the Mission Enabling Products unit in San Diego, CA. This 100% onsite role leads a multidisciplinary team responsible for mechanical design, tooling, and configuration management across PASS programs.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years in aerospace engineering, a STEM degree, and experience with CAD/PLM tools (Siemens NX, Teamcenter). A U.S. government clearance is required; relocation may be considered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline with 8 years of experience in mechanical, structural, or related engineering domains.
• Experience leading engineering teams on structural or mechanical design efforts.
• Aerospace experience including specifications, SOWs, drawings, and ICD compliance.
• Proficiency in CAD/PLM tools such as Siemens NX and Teamcenter with GD&T knowledge.
• Experience with DFMA and mistake-proofing techniques.

Responsibilities

• Lead a multi‑discipline engineering team (Mechanical Design, Tooling, Configuration Management) supporting PASS programs.
• Manage staffing, resources, performance reviews, and career development discussions.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, high‑trust culture across disciplines.
• Drive engagement, retention, and talent development through clear expectations and coaching.
• Coordinate design activities and ensure robust product definition and verification across programs.
• Review designs, tooling, and design review packages (PDR, CDR, MRR) for flight hardware and ground support equipment.
• Partner with Configuration Management to control baselines, engineering changes, and documentation.
• Manage cross‑functional workload and priorities with analysis, manufacturing, quality, and program management.
• Track FPY and OTD; generate BOEs for design labor and tooling costs.
• Lead continuous improvement in design technology and capitalise on DFMA initiatives.
