Job summary

Umbra is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to design, build, operate, and scale mission-critical infrastructure powering our space technology platforms. You will partner with engineering to improve reliability, promote best practices, and drive architectural decisions for long-term scalability.

The role requires strong distributed-systems expertise, Terraform and Kubernetes proficiency, and leadership to guide projects within an Agile environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 5-8+ years in a Site Reliability Engineer or DevOps role supporting a SaaS platform.
• Extensive experience with AWS services (EC2, S3, Lambda, VPC) and cloud security best practices.
• Proficiency running, optimizing, and scaling Kubernetes clusters in production.
• Experience using Terraform to architect and manage production infrastructure.
• IaC, GitOps practices, and automation tools to increase reliability.
• Proven success in Agile/Scrum environments and team leadership.
• Ability to design large-scale, reliable architectures with minimal guidance.
• Experience developing and managing monitoring and alerting strategies.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the reliability and scalability of critical systems, meeting SLAs through proactive monitoring and incident response.
• Develop and promote new technologies and tools, conducting PoCs to introduce solutions.
• Lead by example in fostering a culture of excellence and reliability.
• Continuously evaluate and improve team processes to increase efficiency and reduce complexity.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, product managers, and stakeholders on technical strategy.
• Participate in on-call rotations, providing support and resolving complex issues.
