Job summary

Northwood Space is seeking a Senior Security Engineer to design and implement robust security for a world-spanning space communications network. You will craft security architectures for new ground stations and space protocols, enabling real-time, high-throughput satellite operations across continents.

You will lead incident response, threat hunting, and compliance pipelines to satisfy FedRAMP and NIST 800-171, while collaborating with government customers such as Space Force to safeguard

Qualifications

• 5+ years of production experience securing infrastructure as code and cloud security.
• Ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI clearance.
• Experience conducting security architecture reviews in regulated environments where 'good enough' isn't good enough.
• Strong knowledge of NIST 800-171, CUI, and FedRAMP frameworks and how to implement them in modern cloud architectures.
• Familiarity with government cloud environments (AWS GovCloud, Azure Government) and CI/CD pipelines across air-gapped networks.
• Proficiency in one or more languages (Python, Go, Rust) for building custom security solutions.
• Experience implementing defensive controls for endpoints, SaaS apps, and infrastructure in non-traditional security environments.

Responsibilities

• Build security from the ground up with brand-new ground station infrastructure and space communication protocols.
• Secure distributed systems spanning continents and multiple orbits with robust security controls.
• Own the whole stack from RF protocols to Kubernetes clusters and deploy SIEMs with audit trails.
• Write security playbooks while engaging with Space Force and other government customers.
• Lead incident response and threat hunting across a globally distributed network.
• Create automated compliance pipelines that meet FedRAMP and NIST 800-171 without slowing engineering velocity.
