Job summary

General Motors is seeking a logistics purchasing specialist to execute deliverables supporting the logistics organization and negotiate contracts for returnable container requirements. You will support key Logistics/Containers areas to ensure objectives are met across customer, quality, service, and financial initiatives.

Travel up to 10% domestically and internationally is required. The role requires 5+ years in purchasing/logistics, strong data judgment, negotiation, and relationship

Qualifications

  • 5+ years relevant work experience in purchasing, supply chain, program/product management, logistics or product development
  • Experience with suppliers and service providers in a logistics context
  • Knowledge of contract law as it applies to purchasing processes
  • Ability to travel 10% domestically and internationally

  • Responsible for executing deliverables in support of the logistics organization's business objectives. Negotiating and issuing contracts for GM returnable container requirements.
  • Provides support of one of the key areas within Logistics and / or Containers organization to ensure business objectives are met or exceeded in all areas including customer, quality, service, responsiveness, people, product and financial initiatives. Communicates within the function as well as other functions, external affiliates, regulatory agencies. Responsible for supporting relationship management with suppliers and service providers Influences others within the organization to accept new concepts, practices, and approaches. Identify problems, update or modify work methods that may be complex in the work area without the benefit of defined procedures. Promote GM's values and makes customer-focused decisions. Removing Roadblocks & Resolving Issues/Complaints: Observes and steps up to remove roadblocks and resolve potential issues.

Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • 5+ years relevant work experience in purchasing, supply chain, program/product management, logistics or product development (any internship or co-op experience will not be considered)
  • Data Judgement - Competency using automated tools, ability to objectively analyze data and draw meaningful conclusions
  • Informative Communication - Ability to communicate relevant information to the appropriate audience both effectively and timely
  • Relationship Management - Develops and maintains constructive, cooperative working relationships
  • Negotiation - engage in collaborative discussions to reach meaningful agreements
  • Analytical Thinking - Consider various factors in decision making to determine solutions and their impacts
  • Results Focus - Take charge without prompting, seize opportunities and deliver on time
  • Workload Management - Manage multiple tasks with quality; prioritize by critical needs
  • SAP experience or ability to learn purchasing systems
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time domestically + Internationally
What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Purchasing, Supply Chain Management, Finance, related field
  • Experience with commodities
  • Cost analysis or manufacturing experience
  • Automotive industry experience
  • Knowledge of Returnable Containers
  • Knowledge of Capacity and Materials Management
  • Capable of drawing conclusions from complex data, market trends and the regulatory environment
  • Ability to understand basic engineering documents and technical drivers for the applicable commodities
  • Knowledge of contract law as it applies to the purchasing processes
